Family Workouts Replace Pizza & Game Night


Millennials are more health conscious than previous generations. (For example, think how quickly ‘What the Health’ went viral on Netflix.) This fit and active lifestyle has become especially clear as this generation enters the world of parenting.

A new trend is emerging in Gen-Y households as family exercise time is beginning to replace the traditional pizza and game night.

“Millennials grew up in an age that cut recess and promoted video games and now they are fighting back for fitness,” says health expert Denise Locsin.


Millennials were the main victims of childhood obesity. They see the negative impact an unhealthy lifestyle has had on their boomer parents and they want to make a change. Rather than spending family night watching movies and eating pizza, more young families are opting for healthier alternatives.

Working out with your children goes far beyond the physical benefits.


“Working out as a family improves your relationship because fitness is key to brain health; mental, emotional and stress management. Weight loss and fit body is just a wonderful side effect,” says Denise. 


Family exercise doesn’t need to be formal, it can be as sample as playing games and doing activities that involve movement. We all live busy lives and it’s hard to make time for exercise but it doesn’t have to be time consuming or feel like a chore. There are many fun and creative ways you can incorporate physical activity into your daily routine while spending quality time with your family.


Danny and Denise Locsin are living proof that working out as a family has many benefits. The husband and wife team built their own relationship at the gym and since then, they have dedicated their lives to teaching families how to improve personal connections through exercise. Danny, a kinesiologist, and Denise, a fitness coach, believe family fitness is key to a happy home.


“It is imperative that we teach our kids healthy ways to reduce stress, improve relationships and do better academically,” says Danny.

Husband and wife team, Denise & Danny Locsin created Yokebar to be the ultimate family exercise program.
